Article history: Received 1 December 2015 Received in revised form 19 January 2016 Accepted 20 January 2016 Available online 22 January 2016 The design and fabrication of large radii of curvature micro-lenses in single crystal chemical vapour deposition diamond is described. An optimised photoresist reflow process and low selectivity inductively coupled plasma etching are used to actualize a uniform array of micro-lenses with radii of curvature of 13 mm or more and a high quality surface of a root-mean-square roughness of 0.18 nm. The processes developed have the potential to achieve diamond micro-lenses with an even larger radius of curvature. These new diamond micro-lenses enable the pulse energy scalable monolithic diamond Raman laser where a large radius of curvature of the micro-lenses is critical. © 2016 Published by Elsevier B.V.

Ultra-Sharpening of Diamond Stylus by 500 eV O+/O2 + Ion Beam Machining without Facet and Ripple Formation

The price of single point diamond tools with a sharp tip is very high due to complex machining process and highly expensive machining equipments. Yet, the performance is not quite satisfactory. In this paper, we have presented a very simple and cost effective machining process for the sharpening and polishing of diamond stylus using low energy reactive ion beam machining (RIBM). In our method, ...

Laser Micro-Raman Spectroscopy of CVD Nanocrystalline Diamond Thin Film

Laser micro-Raman spectroscopy is an ideal tool for assessment and characterization of various types of carbon-based materials. Due to its special optical properties (CrN) coated stainless steel substrates. NCD films have been investigated by laser micro-Raman spectroscopy. The fingerprint of diamond based materials is in the spectral region of 1000-1600 cm-1 in the first order of Raman scatter...

Monolithic diamond Raman laser.

A monolithic diamond Raman laser is reported. It utilizes a 13-mm radius of curvature lens etched onto the diamond surface and dielectric mirror coatings to form a stable resonator. The performance is compared to that of a monolithic diamond Raman laser operating in a plane-plane cavity. On pumping with a compact Q-switched laser at 532 nm (16 μJ pulse energy; 1.5 ns pulse duration; 10 kHz repe...
